    In UN statement to the workshop on inclusive societies I highlighted historic legacy of peaceful relations between religious and minority groups. This ancient legacy has passed through generations to present day and needs to be nurtured and preserved. .

    Today I met the Ambassador of Myanmar to Bangladesh. Discussion included the MOU signed bw UNDP, UNHCR & Government of Myanmar. We called for unfettered access for UNHCR and partners as a first, critical step to support voluntary repatriation of Rohingya refugees

    View from the air: aerial pix taken by shelter team show how high the monsoon flood waters are rising. At risk is the main arterial road route - a lifeline - through the main Kutupalong mega site. Urgent need for more families need to be moved to safer grounds.

    The risk of harm f/m flooding and mudslides for that Govt and agencies including have worked so hard to avoid is now unfolding. Many have been relocated to safety. Safe spaces however still urgently required for thousands more.
