    Chocolate, our hamster, was masterful in his escapist antics last night. He climbed up the bars of the cage, pushed open the cap to his cage and out he went. Indeed, we have a roaming hamster at large in our apartment.

    On big leaps: probably the single biggest leap I made was relocating to the Kootenays in 1995 to begin teaching children. Nelson from clositeringly conservative K_rrisdale Vancouver/Victoria was quite a shift. Learned so much in that time. There were reasons I didn't stay.

    Jonty and I did every version of Stella Dela Ola all summer long when we were kids. You can change it up-and it becomes highly involving. It's super fun.

    So much progress has transpired since I sat in a 1991 class in the Faculty of Education at U-Vic and listened to a Caucasian woman call our First Nations 'Indians'...causing me to re-think teaching altogether.

    RE: mistake made in previous feed. I had mentioned the sharps containers for used needles at the school. In fact, the containers are to lure the Japanese beetles. I will say sadly I do find used needles in the shrubs around her school.

    The beloved gorilla Koko, famous for being fluent in sign language, passed away in her sleep Tuesday in Woodside, California. The western lowland gorilla was 46.
