    This is why controlling the media matters: Trump's approval among Republicans hit 90%. Trump has Fox News on his side. Vladimir Putin has similar approval ratings, and he has similarly positive coverage from TV channels he controls outright.

    Also tweeting about “fourth party collection” feels so freaking weird to me. I don’t think most realize how extremely far private sector intelligence has come. Threat intel != feeds. But private sector intel has existed for a long time but has hit a golden age of sorts.

    People should really pay attention to this story, which is the evidence that Trump's zero-tolerance and family separation border policy is happening INSTEAD OF what should be higher priority investigations, prosecutions, and removals.

    DOJ said it was diverting resources from drug smuggling cases to handle minor immigration charges brought on by the Trump administration's border crackdown. Almost immediately multi-kilo smuggling cases started showing up in state court instead.

    The "second-class citizen" phrase is almost always used to express the accurate proposition that any individual within the United States—citizen, undocumented, or otherwise—is fully protected by the Constitution.

    "You can't treat people like second-class citizens" is not a very persuasive argument when you are talking about people who are literally not citizens at all. We can, and should, put Americans first; we can, and should, still treat everyone else as a child of God.

    I tell this story every time I teach criminal procedure, using it as an opportunity both to let students know they can have a significant impact as a junior lawyer and to illustrate that being a good lawyer requires creativity.
