Transforming raw data into visual information to serve persons of concern by UNHCR
Based in Geneva within the Field Information and Coordination Support Section (FICSS) the Visual Information and Mapping Team (VIM)
provides direct support to HQ Geneva staff while supporting UNHCR field operations. This small team has skills in transforming raw data
into visual information such as graphs, maps, timelines and composite products such as Infographics and dashboards, which combine various
elements to convey a specific message or summarize complex situations. The team is client-oriented and works closely with staff to translate
their vision into impactful products.
The VIM team provides creative solutions for a wide variety of visual products throughout UNHCR, including Field Offices.
MAPPING/INFOGRAPHICS
Support mapping projects requested by UNHCR colleagues. Design and deploy interactive infographics and maps.
Provide visual information products in support to emergencies including crisis location maps, snapshots and funding/data graphics.
Reference maps and graphs are developed to support Appeal documents.
GEO-DATA MANAGEMENT
Manage worldwide geographical data for VIM and operational mapping and GIS needs.
Set standards for Geo-data management and use. Provide and manage ArcGIS licenses to field operations.
VISUAL IDENTITY
Produce standard UNHCR visual materials including map icons, templates and infographic tools.
Establish mapping standards and roll-out templates to promote the UNHCR visual mapping.
Advisory support for mapping and visuals. Feedback to field information products.
TRAINING
Provide in-person and remote visualization and mapping/GIS training to field and HQ staff.
LARGE FORMAT PRINTING
This is a limited service for HQ/GVA staff. May require cost sharing for large volume requests.
