Congestion already costs our city $6 billion a year – this is set to rise to $14.8 billion by 2031 if public transport isn’t prioritised – so the impacts of this mess of toll roads on our local neighbourhoods and amenity will be disastrous.

Here at the City, we’ve opposed WestConnex from the beginning – it’s the very opposite of State and City policy, which is to reduce the number of cars coming into the city centre.

The Inquiry will look at many things – including the business case, cost-benefits ratio, cost and overruns, compulsory acquisition of property for the project, and governance and due process.

I am hopeful that information revealed as part of this Inquiry will shape the future of this destructive toll road project and minimise its impact on our city – especially in an election year for the Berejiklian Government.
