    Pathetic. There is no way anyone in the EU can seriously believe that these sanctions are an adequate response to what the UN says is ethnic cleansing and possibly genocide. These are far weaker than previous sanctions. This just reinforces Min Aung Hlaings sense of impunity.

    This statement is another example of how the issue of political prisoners has fallen off the international agenda. A government which keeps political prisoners in jail is not one which respects human rights. This has to start being addressed.
