    UNHCR condemns violence that leaves four refugees dead in Rhino Camp, Uganda

    We are strongly condemning acts of violence that led to the deaths of four refugees in Rhino Camp (Uganda) this week, and commending Government for swift action to contain the situation. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

    Imagine that Uganda has stood for 60 years! And continues to have one of the most progressive refugee policies in the world. On this we thank Uganda & donors like for showing

    Today, on , we recognize the 60 yrs since Nakivale Refugee Settlement opened, and the plight of 66 million people worldwide displaced from their homes. The U.S. remains the largest single country donor of lifesaving humanitarian assistance around the world.

    In 2017, the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes worldwide came at a record rate of 44,400 every day. Fuelled by new crises in DRC, Myanmar, Syria, South Sudan, Somalia - raising the cumulative total to 68.5 million at the year’s end.

    25,000 refugee children in Uganda are either unaccompanied or separated from their parents. Providing them education, food and a secure future is our collective responsibility. Uganda stands but needs international support.
