"Colossal failure": U.S. rep sums up 's four-week presidency of -backed Conference on Disarmament. "As today marks the end of this travesty, let's not forget the horrific Chemical Weapons attacks the regime has carried out against its own people."

I post this link in honor of Charles Krauthammer, who knew the entire movie Casablanca by heart (or very close to it). I recall we once agreed this was our favorite scene.

I recently wrote to Charles Krauthammer: “I am one of the millions you’ve inspired. Your handicaps never inhibited you from speaking truth and wisdom. You’ve possessed an immense generosity of heart. And you gave goodness and meaning to countless lives.” May his memory be blessed

And that is why in the Senate I said we must measure the UNHRC's supposed reform "by the yardstick of the UN’s own standards, set forth in 2005 by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan." If that's the measure, the UNHRC gets a failing grade:

A document UN has tried to bury: their 2006 pledge of how new UNHRC would mark a total reform: • new membership criteria based on rights record • members will "uphold highest standards" • anti-Israeli agenda item to be removed, replaced by "clean slate"

For me, as an aspiring writer on politics, fellow Montrealer and McGill graduate Dr. Charles Krauthammer was the ultimate role model I could look up to. (Below: Krauthammer elected Editor in Chief of Mcgill Daily, Sept. 25, 1969. "He has no journalistic experience whatever.")

I mourn the loss of Charles Krauthammer. I was from a young age a great admirer of the singular wisdom and style of his columns. He took a stand. I met him by chance, at the Supreme Court of Israel, and my hero proved magnanimous, friendly and kind. RIP.
