    Another terrible tragedy. Too many innocent lives lost in search of safety. Addressing root causes + improving cond'ns in + legal pathways remain essential to ensuring that horrific incidents like these are not repeated. May they rest in peace.

    UN Filippo Grandi traveled overnight from Libya to Niger with 122 refugees freed from detention centres in Tripoli. They touched down in the early hours of - a day of hope. We are working to get them a new home.

    Flying tonight from Libya to Niger with 122 refugees freed from detention centers in Tripoli. Hopefully they will be resettled to third countries soon. This programme is crucial: it provides safe, orderly alternatives to people smuggling and exploitation.

    In Libya, at the start of a trip along the routes of refugees+migrants. Some crossed the sea. Some died. Some are trapped. UNHCR, & partners are here. We believe the situation can be managed, given the right resources, approaches & international support.
