Two-thirds of all refugees come from 5 countries. 🇸🇾 Syria 🇦🇫 Afghanistan 🇸🇸 South Sudan 🇲🇲 Myanmar 🇸🇴 Somalia Imagine what peace in just 1 of those countries could mean.

Read this! It will sadden and nauseate you, but it may also strengthen your commitment to never accept the way we treat asylum seekers or, indeed, people found to be refugees who are being punished simply for the way in which they sought refuge.

Here’s an update on the Ali’s situation and my reflections on the medical situation on Nauru. I’m starting to think his case is just the tip of the iceberg.

The doctors names number thousands And we are not picking a fight, we are advising that compassion and excellence in medical care be freely available. The situation on Nauru is so abject that the only chance this man has is to come to Australia.

We teach our medical students to aim for excellent and compassionate medical care. Ali will die excluded from it. I’m proud they are standing with the AMA.

Every time I read those lines, it brings to mind a dystopian novel. I’m horrified that it is real. Aren’t you?

"We have exactly what Ali needs in Australia. Being able to bring his family here would make a perfect ending, although it is not possible," Dr told newsGP

If we heard & saw the tears & the pain right on our doorstep, perhaps we would get some bipartisan govt action on this appalling tragedy. But this LNP govt puts genuine refugees into island prisons with no apparent long-term solution: out of sight & out of mind.

Dr Nick Martin's article on his experiences as a doctor on Nauru is extraordinary. Detailed, thoughtful, and horrifying.
