    Phones were allowed in detention centres in dying days of Howard after long struggle-then withdrawn by ALP from boat arrivals but allowed to air arrivals. Then BorderForce wanted blanket removal. Over reach w/o law so Court said no- hallelujah

    The thread is very important.

    CHRISTMAS ISLAND: Friday - Court order overturned Dotton's ruling. Detainees may have mobile phones with camera facilities. SIM cards to be available Monday. Sunday morning - contractor is busy removing razor wire from the entire detention centre perimeter fence. WHY???

    It HASN'T stopped anything at all...they are being interdicted at sea & turned back to who knows what fate...Dutton & the Gov have put a blanket ban on reporting On Water Maritime Operations...the Aust people are being held in the dark & lied to

    Thank for giving this the attention and scorn it deserves. Also sorry to be a nitpicker, but Manus is still open and occupied, aus just moved them to a “transit centre” and said they were PNGs problem now a year ago

    So here's a new thing in about Australia's experience of putting asylum seekers in holding pens. Shockingly, maintaining a large population of humans in legal limbo doesn't go well. Thanks .
