    Creativity flourishing on a side wall of a Child Friendly Space run by MSF in UNHCR’s Transit Center in Kutupalong. Newly arrived refugees from Myanmar stay at the center temporarily until they can relocate to the main settlement.

    Prize-giving event for at the Technical Assistance Inc. (TAI) community centre in Kutupalong. TAI’s committed staff out in great numbers today to steer many activities. Heard some impressive singing voices within the Rohingya community.

    events underway at Kutupalong refugee settlement in Cox’s Bazar. Agencies working with refugees, CODEC and BRAC among others, have organized events for children. Have just seen some of the fun games and races.

    There’s not much space in the congested/hilly Kutupalong refugee settlement for games like ⚽️🏏 Six months ago flying kites was popular among children. These days it’s marbles. It was one of the games keeping their spirits up as they bravely weathered the harsh rains this week.

    Hoping today for some let up in week’s rainfall in Cox’s Bazar. If adding up rainfall count from Bangladesh meteorological service over last 5 days = over 540mm since the 10th June; some 67 per cent of average normal monthly rainfall (by my calc).

    Inspecting site for emergency relocation of at risk of landslides. Structures are robust even after heavy monsoon rains. The work continues as rain falls. Full force ahead. No retreat.

    According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the average normal rainfall for Cox’s Bazar in June is 801.9 mm. Has been heavy the last two days.
