Happy to all those fathers who believe in their daughters and encourage them to believe in themselves. And to all those fathers who raise their sons to believe in gender equality.

The world is a safer, healthier, wealthier place when girls are in school. With the Summit in Canada this year, I hope to see PM walk the talk and commit to funding girls’ education.

Grateful to Emily Blunt and for their friendship and their work for girls around the world. I was so moved by Emily’s powerful, empathetic speech on why she supports girls’ education.

These steps should be supported by new funding. As my fellow education advocate said in her speech: "Girls have fantastic dreams for our futures, but we can only achieve them if leaders invest in 12 years of free, safe, quality education."

Last month I challenged Commonwealth leaders to commit to girls' education. I'm happy today's communiqué affirms the importance of 12 years of education for all girls and that the UK signed the Safe Schools Declaration to protect students from violence.

Encouraged by UK’s commitment to put 12 years of free, safe, quality education for girls at the heart of the agenda today. I hope all leaders will back this ambition with funding commitments.
