President Trump says crossing the U.S.-Mexico border is like “walking through Central Park.” and break down the the dangerous and sometimes fatal journey migrants reach the border.

  3. I was inside the detention center that separated more kids from any other. FLOTUS was in McAllen but didn’t go there. There is *nothing* phony about kids alone in a cage supervised by a security contractor in a watch tower. I saw it myself.

  4. The Obama administration *did* use those horrifying cages to house detained migrants and families. But never children alone as part of a systematic policy to take them away from their parents. Never. Never. Never. Never.

  6. my incredible colleague , whose reporting on migrant family separations *months* ago first put the spotlight on the policy that ripped these kids away from their parents. Everything we were able to do on the ground this week was thanks in large part to her.

I am convinced that without sustained public pressure and/or litigation they are simply not going to reunite these families.

She also skipped the visit to CBP detention, so she did not see the children in cages as you did

There were reportedly six kids who had been separated from their parents at the McAllen shelter FLOTUS visited. They likely don’t know if or when they will see their parents again. Would love to know what she said to them, if anything.

🚨 The 17 people might not have gotten charged, but their children WERE ALREADY TAKEN from them. The kids were removed 2-3 days before the parents faced charges. We still need to reunite them.

. just told there are 239 kids who were separated from their parents who were brought from the border all the way to New York City. That’s around 2,000 away from their parents. If mom or dad wasn’t already deported.

All of this to say when Trump tweets “The Border has been a big mess and problem for many years” — I genuinely don’t think he knows what he’s talking about. That, or he’s just lying.

And while Trump is obsessed with migrants coming to the US through our southern border, the largest number of people coming here illegally are flying — from Asia.

Another — to February of 2017 — when we explained how a wall won’t even stop drugs from “pouring” across the border, as Trump likes to say. They’re coming through legal ports of entry — places *surrounded* by walls.

to July 2016, when we first pointed out on ’s that the border crisis Trump wants everyone to believe is happening doesn’t actually exist. Not even close.
