Working Group Description

The Child Protection Sub-Sector has identified six thematic priority areas for 2015: unaccompanied and separated children (UASC), child labour, children associated with armed forces and armed groups, violence against children, children in conflict with the law and children with disabilities. These six priority areas will be addressed through capacity building and mainstreaming of child protection concerns into the humanitarian response and national child protection systems and government services, increased prevention and outreach activities, improving opportunities for safe and confidential disclosure through effective referrals to expanded and improved multi-sectoral and gender-sensitive response services. This will include continued work on alternative care procedures and strengthening the capacity of the MoSD and the Courts to identify and formalize alternative care arrangements. In 2015, child protection actors aim to strengthen humanitarian, national, and community-based child protection systems to provide timely protection services in children’s best interests, and will conduct an assessment on the risk of child recruitment in Jordan with a view to developing specialized programming to mitigate the risk of recruitment or re-recruitment, particularly for male youth. Child protection actors will also work closely with partners in the Education Sector in order to address the issues of violence in schools (peer to peer and other forms of violence), the training of teachers and counsellors working with Syrian children, the issue of access and inclusion for children with disabilities, and the strengthening of informal education opportunities, including through child and youth spaces.
