  2. , Agadez, many Sudanese refugees from Darfur, fled refugee camps in Chad due to severe reduction of assistance, in particular food aid, they went to Libya to try to find work & many ended up enslaved in farms. They then escaped to Niger.

  4. , if assistance levels continue to deteriorate in key transit countries, we should not be surprised if people continue to go to Libya to try to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Asylum systems must be strengthened in transit States, as promised in Valetta

    Very saddened by the news of 120 persons drowning at sea off the coast of over the past 2 days. Calling for legal pathways to provide alternatives to these dangerous crossings for persons in need of international protection in Libya

    , Somali women evacuated by with support. They fled Yemen due to the war; they lived there several years as refugees, crossed to Sudan & ended up in average 1 year in detention in Libya.

    , just met French team, resettlement from Niger is not an externalisation of asylum responsibilities. Access to is important everywhere, including in the EU

    many refugees still living in difficult conditions in detention centers, not every1 is evacuated to these kids & mothers are left behind as we have not enough evacuation & resettlement places

    In Libya, at the start of a trip along the routes of refugees+migrants. Some crossed the sea. Some died. Some are trapped. UNHCR, & partners are here. We believe the situation can be managed, given the right resources, approaches & international support.
