Thank you for supporting
the Brighter Lives for Refugees Campaign
The Brighter Lives for Refugees Campaign is one among other initiatives that has been developed through the UNHCR - IKEA Foundation global partnership supporting people who have been forced to flee their homes.
Your donation is helping light up refugee camps in parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East, as well providing vital education for refugee children. Your support means that together with the IKEA Foundation, we are making refugee camps a better and more sustainable place for children and families who have been forced to flee.
But as you would know a humanitarian emergency is continuing to unfold across Europe.
Over 900,000 people have crossed the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea in 2015, fleeing war and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, and other countries. Over 3,500 people have drowned or gone missing this year. Yet, the number of people arriving in Europe continues to rise.
UNHCR is on the ground providing life-saving protection and we urgently need your help to continue our work.
How we help:
- We are the only humanitarian aid agency on the ground 24 hours a day, assisting the government, providing aid, resources and emergency staff.
- Our teams are providing protection, shelter, emergency food, water, medical care to refugees in Europe, on the ground in Syria and in neighbouring countries.
- We have provided millions of blankets, sleeping bags and mats, distributing rain coats and other wet weather clothing to refugees travelling in the rain.
- We have delivered 100 metric tonnes of food and nearly 60,000 bottles of water to European countries since the start of the crisis.
- We have provided 10,000 tents, 100 temporary halls, which can be used for delivering services or even as temporary large accommodation, and 800 Refugee Housing Units in which to provide aid, medical treatment and information to families.
- We are in ongoing talks with all affected governments neighbouring Syria and in Europe, advocating to ensure borders remain open and that there is safe, unimpeded access to asylum and humane assistance.
Your support is vital in helping us reach refugees, at all stages of their journey, here’s how you can help:
