Humanitarian community and authorities join forces in CAR CCCM training

On 9 and 10 April 2014 thirty participants, from different backgrounds, took part in CCCM training in Bangui, Central African Republic. Given the recent activation of the CCCM Cluster with UNHCR as the lead agency and IOM as the co-facilitator, most of the participants were hoping to get a clear overview of the roles and responsibilities within the CCCM framework, to understand the main activities to be carried out in each phase of the camp life cycle and to be informed on how to work with camp populations through community participation. Another expectation was to have an opportunity to share experiences and meet fellow stakeholders.

Asking the participants for their opinion, their expectations were clearly met: "It served as a very interesting forum to provide a shared understanding of the CCCM framework and the camp life cycle with concrete examples shared by many trainees that enriched the training. Sharing good practices as well as useful tools, also from other countries, proved very helpful. The seminar was very participatory and many group exercises enabled us to discuss a few challenges in smaller groups. Overall, the training was a nice forum for participants with different backgrounds and responsibilities."

Oriane Bataille and Alexis Vutseme explained the training was designed to include many group works and break the audience into smaller discussion groups in several occasions. "Some trainees had already attended one-day trainings focused on site management and this inter-agency training also tried to give them an overview of the CCCM framework and confront points of view between different profiles of stakeholders, the participation of two agents from the Mairie de Bangui being a strong asset in terms of exchanges between the humanitarian community and the authorities."
