CCCM in Khyber, Pakistan
The CCCM Cluster is operating in all three of the Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa camps, Jalozai, Togh Serai and New Durrani. Regular camp meetings refer issues to the provincial CCCM Cluster. The IDP population in Pakistan is currently 787,222 individuals; 81,151 of whom reside in camps (10%), with the other 706,071 living out of camps (90%). Jalozai Camp has 12,590 families (58,467 individuals) while Togh Serai Camp has 1,159 families (5,821 individuals) and New Durrani Camp has 3,314 families (16,863 individuals). Registration of IDPs from the Tirah valley is continuing at New Durrani camp and plans for a Tirah IDP registration site in Kohat (Jerma) are underway.
Significant improvements have been made in the camps over 2012 and into 2013. Notable achievements include: more robust structures have been built to protect against harsh weather conditions; capacity building of the Cluster members through delivery of CCCM trainings; and the development and implementation of an improved registration process which utilizes mobile devices helping to reduce the time lag between registration and assistance from one week to two days.
Vulnerable families were provided with emergency shelters, whereas the majority of displaced families stayed with host families or relatives. Grievance desks have also been established to ensure that protection issues and the problems of IDPs are being recorded and addressed.
Priorities for the remainder of the year revolve around improving communication and coordination with other clusters. The division of responsibilities among Cluster members also needs to be further defined in terms of coordination with other clusters. Coordination among other clusters such as Protection, and Shelter/NFIs will be more efficient through the development of joint workplans.
