Training Takes Place in Nigeria

A Training of Trainers is taking place this week in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, led by CCCM experts Lily Appoh and Etienne Antheunissens. The Training of Trainers will build on a CCCM training that took place in Nigeria last August, with the aim of creating a core group of national officials who can deliver additional trainings to their colleagues and others. The training will support the work of government officials, CCCM coordinators and implementing partners and will strengthen the local capacity and understanding of the management of camps and camp-like locations, with large numbers of displaced populations, both IDPs and refugees. The trainings will also seek to identify gaps in current camp management practice and make improvements where mecessary.

The majority of Nigeria's IDPs are hosted in informal settings or absorbed within host populations. Most IDPs have returned home following flooding in 2012, however many people remain displaced as a result of communal conflict. The aim of the trainings this June is to help strengthen coordination between national, state and local levels for improved response both now and in future emergencies.
