Strengthening technical capacity: CCCM and Shelter Training in Iraq

April 5th – 7th 2016. The CCCM Cluster in Iraq with support from the EU Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) implemented a 3-day Training in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Trainers from the CCCM and Shelter teams at IOM, Cluster co-chair in Iraq, conducted Collective Shelter Management &  Care and Maintenance Training on informal settlements for 15 participants, among them, government officials from Baghdad and Salahaddin, the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement, and IOM CCCM Mobile teams.

 

This training was conducted by Jacqueline Julca, CCCM trainer, and Raja Segaran, Program Officer (Shelter Engineer) for IOM in Iraq. This activity aimed to strengthen technical capacity to government officials on informal settlements management in order to improve the coordination, the provision of services and protection to displaced populations according to International Standards and ensuring Community Participation. This training was based on CCCM materials and technical  tools adjusted to informal settlement context. This training also included one day exclusively to disseminate  knowledge and skills on how to oversee and  carry out  capacity building and perform on job training ( OJT) with repair toolkits for IDP’s and perform minimal care and maintenance of the informal / critical shelter living environment. The training was conducted in English and translated simultaneously in Arabic. This activity concluded on April 7th with the delivery of certificates to all participants.
