American author Khaled Hosseini meets with Syrian refugee Amina and her family in Iraq.

Amina was three months pregnant when she and her family fled Syria following a nearby car bomb which forced them to flee their homes. After a difficult pregnancy, Amina’s son was born three months prematurely and fought for his life. They currently live in the Kawergosk refugee camp in Kurdistan.

The family still misses their homeland. The consolation is that the Refugee Housing Unit has helped Amina’s son journey towards health, and has brought the family hope for the future. Mohammed’s life had a turbulent beginning; the family hopes that his story will continue peacefully.
