Claiming and Understanding HLP Restitution in Myanmar

The restitution of housing, land and property rights after conflicts and periods of non-democratic governance are fundamental aspects of transitional justice which are essential for the achievement of durable solutions to forced displacement, and to broader concerns of peace, reconciliation and economic prosperity. In Myanmar, the question of land remains one of the most complex, challenging and sensitive topics, just as it is in all other countries; Myanmar is far from unique in this regard. The Norwegian Refugee Council has issued three new publications on restitution in Myanmar thereby reflecting on how restitution has been addressed thus far. The guidance is available for download here.
