WHS Side Event - Dilemmas and Opportunities in Frontline Humanitarianism: Principles, Protection and Proximity

With the support of the Global Protection Cluster (GPC), UNHCR and NRC will hold a side event at the World Humanitarian Summit, providing an opportunity to explore the humanitarian community’s commitment to place protection of internally displaced persons and others affected by crisis at the heart of humanitarian action.

A panel of experts will share and discuss the range of expertise and actions needed to deliver on protection and to ensure more effective and principled humanitarian action. While humanitarian crises today are replete with challenges and dilemmas, a focus on protection from the perspective of communities helps identify priority interventions and services for a response which is both respectful and complementary to people’s own protective mechanisms.

The event takes place at LKCC, Rumeli Hall 5, and is open to all WHS participants. The event seeks to bring together representatives from the various member states, mandated agencies, humanitarian and development NGOs, national civil society organisations, NGO networks and academia.
