Global demand for opals soaring

As worldwide demand for opals has risen strongly over the past five years, the global price has soared.

This has meant increased interest in mining opals in Australia, where deposits are located in the state of South Australia.

However, as opal miners warn - finding the gemstones can be a difficult and time-consuming business.
