The continuation of resettlement of refugees to Iceland is important

“It is crucial that Iceland continue to resettle refugees, as this is often the only durable solution for individuals who have fled because of persecution in their country of origin,” UNHCR’s regional representative for Northern Europe, Pia Prytz Phiri, said when she recently visited Iceland.

Finnish Refugee Man and Woman of the Year

The Finnish Refugee Council has nominated Bahar Mozaffari from Espoo the Refugee Woman of the Year, and Oulu-based Ramin Akhi the Refugee Man of the Year. The nominations were announced today at the Women of the World Festival held in Tampere.

Sweden’s unearmarked core support to UNHCR saves refugees’ lives

Sweden is one of UNHCR’s most important donors and the largest donor of unearmarked funds which UNHCR can use where the needs are the greatest. Sweden donates its unearmarked support as a core contribution at the beginning of each year and in 2016 Sweden has increased its unearmarked support to a record high SEK 815 million which has saved lives and created durable solutions for many people forced to flee.
