Cries of hunger from South Sudan:
Famine has been declared!
5.5 million people are in
urgent need of help.
In South Sudan, at least 100,000 people (nearly half of them are children) are facing risk of death because of famine!
As the brutal conflict in South Sudan continues, since it started in December 2013, and leading to the largest refugee crisis in Africa, decreased funding has led to cuts in food rations and severe shortages in food. In after, around 5.5 million people (42% of the overall population) are in urgent need of food and humanitarian assistance, and among them, there are 1 million people who have been classified as “on the brink of the famine.”
UNHCR is on the ground helping to assist those families to ensure that they don’t go to sleep hungry - but we can’t do this alone.
