In December 2013, Cheil Worldwide, a leading Korean advertising firm dispatched a team to Niger with the support of the UNHCR. The team interviewed and took 3D film/photographs of refugees in Niger. The objective was to propose 3D global refugee awareness-raising campaign dubbed “Invisible People”. Using the 3D printer, the team created figurines of the refugees. Figurines of refugees living in Korea were also made. In February and march 2014, the figurines were exposed at the Seoul Museum of Art and in other parts of the city. The aim was to motivate the general public to know more about refugees and their plight. As a result of a successful campaign, UNHCR Korea and Cheil Worldwide received a number of prestigious awards and outstanding recognitions throughout the year. The prize awards among others include two Cannes bronze lion’s awards under design and outdoor categories, two gold-star awards at Busan International Advertising Festival, and a special award at the Korea Advertising Award (KAA). UNHCR Niger’s support to the “Invisible People” campaign was a total pleasure. UNHCR Niger congratulates the entire project team and is humbled by its expressed gratefulness.
