Belgrade, 20 June – On the occasion of World Refugee Day and to mark the 40th anniversary of the opening of UNHCR Office in  Belgrade, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) opened today an exhibition “UNHCR In Serbia: 40 Years of Assistance and Cooperation”.

The exhibition was opened by Mr Hans Friedrich Schodder, UNHCR Representative in Serbia and Mr Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.

The exhibition consists of 48 pictures showing the historical moments of former Socialist Federal Republic for Yugoslavia  ratifying the 1951 Refugee Convention, influx of refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina  and Croatia and internally displaced persons from Kosovo in the 90s, the assistance UNHCR has been providing to the affected persons and the Government, through to the most recent, 2015 refugee situation in the part it affected Serbia.

UNHCR is grateful to the people of Serbia, their Government and the authorities, the civil society and all our partners and friends as well as our donors.

The exhibition will be open to public until 20 July in Aleja Velikana, on Kalemegdan Park.
