The Communications & Public Information unit is responsible for UNHCR’s public image. We develop campaigns to tell people about refugee issues and to promote support for UNHCR’s mission to protect the vulnerable. We work in a close, fast-paced team that is always looking for new and inventive ways to communicate. We are currently recruiting to our office in Stockholm.
Description of tasks:
- Writing articles about UNHCR events, interviewing officials and refugees for our website.
- Making videos for social media (YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo) and our website.
- Developing our media formats and content to keep pace with the latest in digital and communication trends
- Monitoring, tracking and analysing refugee issues in print, broadcast and digital media (including social media).
- Designing websites, campaign pages and working with communication strategies in a culturally and linguistically diverse setting.
- Translating communication materials to regional languages.
- Research tasks based on your interests and UNHCR’s priorities.
Background:
- A degree in communication, media studies, journalism, political science, international relations or development studies.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and in one of our regional languages: Danish, Estonian, Finnish, Icelandic, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Swedish.
- Good knowledge of refugee issues in the region, including the political debate in your home country.
- Strong skills in computer software and social media (particularly Photoshop and InDesign).
- Experience writing for a public audience (e.g.: newspaper articles, student journalism, local association or group, a blog, etc.) is very desirable. Please provide examples.
