Information on a 1992 massacre of Yibir clan members in Mogadishu could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
A researcher at the United States Institute for Peace in Washington, DC, stated that the Yibir are not a clan but a caste group (18 Dec. 1996). He explained that the Yibir and other minority groups such as the Midgan and Tumal "suffered greatly" in the Somali crisis because they are not allied with the major clan families and they do not have a power base (ibid.).
