Anilde and Azilda Kaputu

Winners of Danish X-Factor 2016

The siblings Anilde and Azilda Kaputu became famous in Denmark when they won X Factor 2016 with their band EMBRACE (NEW:NAME). Anilde and Azilda were only children when they fled with their parents from Angola in 2001. After the civil war, the Angolan government changed, and their parents were threatened because they had publicly voiced their criticism of the government’s policies.  When the siblings performed a beautiful cover of the Danish band Ulige Numre’s political song ‘Frit Land’ in X Factor 2016, the song became a symbol of how their parents worked hard to provide their children with a brighter future, without the constant fear of war and horror.

The family came to Denmark via Zambia with the help of the UN. Anilde and Azilda were raised in the small city Vildbjerg in Western Jutland and felt welcomed by the local community, which has helped them to integrate successfully into Danish society.
