SIGNING OF CONTRACT ON COOPERATION for construction of six prefabricated housing units

Sombor, 20 May 2015 - the Mayor of the City of Sombor, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations of the Republic of Serbia, and UN High Commissioner for Refugees signed today the Contract on Cooperation for construction of six prefabricated houses on the territory of the City of Sombor.

Six prefabricated houses for the families accommodated in the informal collective centre Aleksa Santic in Sombor will be built within the framework of the project "Support to the improvement of living conditions of forced migrants and closure of collective centers", financed by the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia from IPA 2012 pre-accession funds.

The City of Sombor, as an investor, provided the construction land with adequate infrastructure in the Ive Andrica street, the settlement Aleksa Santic. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration is coordinating the process of closing the collective centres. UNHCR and its implementing partner Vizija will provide technical and financial support, main design, installation and equipping of the houses.

Six beneficiary families: five refugee families and one domicile socially vulnerable family will have the right to use the houses but and not to purchase them. Once the houses have been constructed, the total of six households will be provided with the conditions for a decent life. The houses will be equipped with basic furniture and appliances.

The total value of construction works and equipping of the houses is EUR 105,000. The works are planned to be completed by mid-Autumn 2015.

This Project is part of a more comprehensive program funded by the European Union supporting improvement of living conditions of forced migrants - "For A Better Life", with the total value of 14.2 million euro.
