Education for refugee children focus of new H&M Foundation campaign

STOCKHOLM, 3 November 2016 – Refugee children will benefit from school supplies under a global campaign launched today by non-profit H&M Foundation in support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
For every H&M gift card sold from 3 November until 31 December 2016, H&M Foundation will make a donation to help UNHCR provide school supplies for refugee children in countries around the world, including Ethiopia, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Sudan and Syria. The campaign will run in some 4,000 H&M stores in 47 markets worldwide.
After decades in exile, 71 refugees have returned from Thailand to Myanmar, feeling both joy and trepidation about their future.

UNHCR Thailand won the Asia Pacific Communication Award 2016 in the category “Campaign by Non-Profit Organizations” for its NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES campaign. The announcement was made yesterday in Singapore.

The first voluntary returns of Myanmar refugees from Thailand took place this week, an initiative that was being supported by the governments of the two countries. An initial number of 71 refugees had wished to return home as part of the first pilot group, which is hoped to mark the beginning of a process of returns that might eventually resolve one of Asia’s longest-running refugee situations.

It started when Kong invited me to join UNHCR’s NAMJAI FOR REFUGEES campaign. I said “Yes” right away as a Thai I believe in helping others. I decided to visitMae La refugee camp in Tak province to learn about refugees and keep to experience to compose my song for the campaign. Our special song called “Thank you from the hills from the hearts”
