Vodafone Foundation

In 2013, the Vodafone Foundation approached UNHCR and its partners in Dadaab, Kenya, with a provocative question: how could mobile technology be leveraged to improve the quality of education in the world’s largest refugee settlement?

Throughout 2014, the Vodafone Foundation built on preexisting infrastructure to establish 13 Instant Network Classrooms located within three secondary schools, six primary schools and four vocational training centers in Dadaab. The project impacted more than 20,000 students and led to an increase in primary school enrolment within Dadaab camp.

In early 2015, Vodafone Foundation confirmed a generous donation of $5 million to expand the Instant Network School program over five years in various other locations, and to inspire other contributions.
