Refugees
Refugee is someone who "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country."
Stateless People
Since its creation, the United Nations has endeavoured to address and resolve a wide range of issues related to statelessness.
Asylum – Seeker
The terms asylum-seeker and refugee are often confused: an asylum-seeker is someone who says he or she is a refugee, but whose claim has not yet been definitively evaluated.
Internally Displaced Persons
Internally displaced people, or IDPs, are often wrongly called refugees. Unlike refugees, IDPs have not crossed an international border to find sanctuary but have remained inside their home countries.
Returnees
For many people forced from their homes, a voluntary return home in safety and dignity marks the successful end to the trauma.
