International Art Exhibition in Dushanbe

On April 26, 2017 the Gallery of Modern Arts of Tajikistan held an International Art Exhibition dedicated to the Day of the city of Dushanbe, which is celebrated annually on April the 15th.

The Exhibition exposed the works of talented and famous artists from Tajikistan, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and amateur artists from Afghanistan.

Tajikistan artists exposed around 40 works demonstrating the unique features of Dushanbe’s and its residents’ lives through free and abstract-realistic vision of different states of the capital. 

The works of three refugee artists living in Tajikistan were also exposed at the Exhibition within a dedicated corner. Mrs. Mavjuda Rakhmanova the Head of Refugees, Children and Vulnerable Citizens (RCVC) exerted lots of efforts in having exposed refugees’ works during this important Exposition. According to Mrs. Rakhmanova: “The refugee artists felt themselves as an equal members of the Tajik society and they were happy and grateful to the given opportunity of showcasing their paintings”.

UNHCR Representative Mr. Vito Trani during his speech at the opening ceremony thanked the organizers for displaying the works of refugees and organizing the Exhibition on a high level. Ms. Elizabeth Millard, the USA Ambassador in Tajikistan paid special attention to the works of refugees, noting that despite being in such a difficult life situation refugee artists stay dedicated to the Arts.

The handicrafts of refugee artisans were also presented at the handmade souvenirs also part of the same Exhibition.
