Voluntary repatriation: In 2002-2016, UNHCR assisted and facilitated the return of 162 refugees to their countries of origin.

Resettlement: In 2001-2016, UNHCR Kazakhstan organized the resettlement to third countries of 702 refugees.

Stateless persons: 6,876 (officially recognized by the Government of Kazakhstan, as of 1 January 2016).

Projects and partners: Assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless persons in Kazakhstan

  • Advocacy for amendment of national legislation related to asylum, nationality and statelessness, capacity building of government institutions, border monitoring and referral mechanism, emergency preparedness - UNHCR
  • Social and medical assistance to refugees and asylum-seekers – Kazakhstan Red Crescent Society
  • Legal counselling and court representation, advocacy for enhanced access of refugees to the rights and assistance to stateless persons - Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Right and Rule of Law
  • Education and self-reliance – International Association for Social Projects
