Programmes: in Almaty and Astana Total Persons of Concern: 7,567 Refugees and asylum-seekers: as of 1 July 2016 Refugees: 691 persons Afghanistan: 632 Uzbekistan: 25 Syria: 20 Others: 14 Asylum seekers: 184 persons Afghanistan: 137 Syria: 15 Others: 32 Voluntary repatriation: In 2002-2016, UNHCR assisted and facilitated the return of 162 refugees to their countries of origin. Resettlement: In 2001-2016, UNHCR Kazakhstan organized the resettlement to third countries of 702 refugees. Stateless persons: 6,876 (officially recognized by the Government of Kazakhstan, as of 1 January 2016).
