In commemorating the World Refugee Day on 20 June 2014, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Sri Lanka held an Art and Essay Contest for School Children with the aim of promoting greater awareness of the lives led by refugees and tolerance towards refugee population. The contests were held under the theme: what it takes to be a refugee in the 21st century. School children of all ages were invited to participate, helping UNHCR raise awareness and also to create a culture of tolerance as well as respect. The winners were selected in June 2014.
