Senior Protection Associate (G7) – Temporary Appointment

Requirements and experience:

  • Completion of secondary education with certificate/training in International Law, Political Science or related fields is required
  • University degree in International Law, Political Science or related fields is desirable
  • 11 years of job experience relevant to the functions
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese
  • Excellent knowledge of Cantonese is an asset
  • Good computer skills (including MS office and other basic database management skills) is desirable

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments that have an impact on the protection environment
  2. Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct
  3. Assist in providing comments on existing and draft legislation related to persons of concern
  4. Provide advice and guidance on protection issues to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation
  5. Assist in conducting eligibility and status determination for persons of concern in compliance with UNHCR procedural standards and international protection principles
  6. Contribute to measures to identify, prevent and reduce statelessness
  7. Contribute to a country-level child protection plan as part of the protection strategy
  8. Contribute to a country-level education plan as part of the protection strategy
  9. Implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all protection/solutions activities
  10. Manage individual protection cases including those on SGBV and child protection. Monitor, and intervene in cases of refoulement, expulsion and other protection incidents
  11. Assist in promoting durable solutions for the largest possible number of persons of concern through voluntary repatriation, local integration and where appropriate, resettlement
  12. Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners
  13. Contribute to and facilitate a programme of results-based advocacy with sectorial and/or cluster partners
  14. Facilitate effective information management through the provision of disaggregated data on populations of concern and their problems
  15. Participate in initiatives to capacitate authorities, relevant institutions and NGOs to strengthen national protection related legislation and procedures
  16. Any other responsibilities/functions deemed necessary or as delegated by the Assistant Protection Officer / Head of Sub-Office in order to meet the level of the services in the organization

This temporary post is available immediately until 31 December 2017, extendable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Donor Care Assistant (Part time)

 Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is recruiting Donor Care Assistant (Part time) to support the implementation of the Donor Care Programme.

 Requirements and experience:

  • Completed secondary level schooling or vocational training equivalent to secondary school level;
  • Related experience in data entry or telemarketing is preferred;
  • Proven experience in fundraising work related to donor service or telemarketing is a definite advantage;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and English;
  • Applicants must be able to work at least 16 hours per week and the contract is renewable every year

 Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with UNHCR and support the implementation of the Donor Care Programme of UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit, in particular on donor service and donor information processing;
  2. Carry out welcome procedures to greet new donors by phone and/or by post such as send welcome letters and make welcome phone-calls to new donors;
  3. Confirm donors’ personal details, as appropriate, before entering accurate information into the database;
  4. Input donor personal details and donation details into donor database;
  5. Assist in preparing donation receipt to donors;
  6. Conduct telemarketing programs if necessary;
  7. Undertake any other duties as required
