News and state electoral sources of 2003 noted that Ernesto Jimenez Tovar ran as an Institutional Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Institucional, PRI) candidate for mayor for the city of Jiutepec, Morelos in 2003 (IEEM 11 Nov. 2003, 20; La Jornada de Morelos 25 June 2003). According to the Website of the State Electoral Institute for Morelos (Instituto Estatal Electoral Morelos, IEEM), the PAN won the election with 19,354 votes, while the PRI came in second with 11,065 votes (2003).
In 2000, the PRI publication Examen listed Ernesto Jimenez Tovar as a congressional candidate for Department 2 in Morelos for the July 2000 general election (May 2000).
Information about whether Jimenez Tovar switched to the PAN could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. However, in May 2005, in addition to mentioning that Ernesto Jimenez Tovar was the ex-candidate for mayor of Jiutepec, the Cuernavaca-based newspaper El Regional also reported that Ernesto Jimenez Tovar was in contention to become a national advisor for the PRI (5 May 2005).
No further information about Ernesto Jimenez Tovar could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
