The only published references found among the sources consulted on attacks or threats of attacks by political opponents against supporters or campaign workers of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Yucatan, for the period 2000-2002, are in press releases of the PRI related to the Yucatan state elections of May 2001. One report, citing an interview with the PRI general secretary Rodolfo Echeverría Ruiz, refers to aggressions (agresiones) by the National Action Party (PAN) against the PRI, albeit without specifying their nature (PRI 4 June 2001). Another report states that the bus transporting the electoral entourage of the PRI gubernatorial candidate, Orlando Paredes Lara, was attacked with stones by PAN members or supporters in the municipality of Opichen (ibid. 21 May 2001).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
