A representative of the Zimbabwe Consulate in Washington, contacted on 26 February 1991, made a distinction between a citizen by birth and a citizen by registration. According to the representative, a citizen by birth will loose its citizenship only when acquiring another one from a foreign country or if this person travel with a foreign passport. For citizen by registration, the person will loose it and the only way to acquire it again is to travel to Harare (the capital of Zimbabwe) and make a formal demand in person to the proper governmental instance.
