According to an official of the High Commission of Zambia in Ottawa, the holder of a Zambian passport is a Zambian citizen, and a confiscated passport does not normally deprive a Zambian of her/his citizenship (12 Oct. 1993). For information on the circumstances under which a Zambian citizen can be deprived of a Zambian passport or citizenship, please refer to Responses to Information Requests ZMB15484.E and ZMB15485.E, both of 12 October 1993. These documents are available at your Regional Documentation Centre.
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
