On 30 January, 1996 Reuters reported that President Mohamed Djohar had ordered "the release of leaders of a 1992 coup attempt," as well as "up to 40 people" detained for their involvement in the coup attempt (Reuters 30 Jan. 1996). The U.S. State Department reported that soldiers detained as a result of the 1992 coup attempt were freed by foreign-led mercenaries during another coup attempt in 1995. These prisoners were "later granted amnesty" (Country Reports 1996 1997, 57).

The Indian Ocean Newsletter of 15 June 1996 reported that after President Mohamed Taki Abdul Karim came to power in March  1996 (Country Reports 1996 1997, 57), soldiers who had been involved in the 1992 coup attempt "wanted to be taken back into FCD" (Force Comorienne de Defense). The reintegration of these soldiers was opposed by the FCD commanding officer, Major Assoumane Azzali (The Indian Ocean Newsletter June 15, 1996) who was relieved of his command on June 4 and replaced by Colonel Abdurazak (ibid.).

The Indian Ocean Newsletter reported in September 1996 that four officers ( Captain Combo, Lieutenants Said Mohamed, Abderemane and Sheikh Abdallah (  and an unspecified number of NCOs implicated in the 1992 coup attempt were reintegrated into the Comoros armed forces (FCD).
