Côte d'Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire’s political stability and economic growth have provided for some improvements in the rule of law and the fulfillment of economic and social rights. However, the Ivorian government has made little progress in addressing human rights issues at the root of over a decade of political violence, notably in combatting impunity and reforming the security services. Although former president Laurent Gbagbo and his former youth minister are on trial at the International Criminal Court for crimes committed during the 2010-2011 crisis, there have so far been no trials for alleged abuses committed by commanders who supported current president Alassane Ouattara.
