People, READ the presidential order purporting to address the jailing of children by DHS. It replaces one problem (jailing kids) with another (jailing families) and is so ambiguous as to create more problems:

The Department of Health and Human Services said the children who have already been separated will not be reunited with their parents. "For the minors currently in the unaccompanied alien children program, the sponsorship process will proceed as usual."

Hugely important: Trump E.O calls for detention of families NOT just while parents are prosecuted for misdemeanor illegal entry. He wants to detain them for their immigration proceedings too--proceedings that often take years to complete.

For all the media and policy attention to and resettled refugees, they are a tiny % of the world's displaced population. Rich democracies use remote controls to keep most refugees from ever reaching their territories. Global Trends report

In the summer of 2015, 1.5 million refugees arrived at Europe’s borders. This article examines how and why this humanitarian crisis was transformed into a“racist crisis”.

Since the president is lying about this, I'll reiterate that we obtained internal CBP documents that show that ****91%**** of parents whose kids are taken away are being prosecuted for misdemeanor FIRST TIME entry.

Here's my appearance on discussing my & reporting about how family separation sometimes extends to ports of entry and does not only target people who cross border illegally, despite what says:

I’m at the Brownsville port of entry today. About 15 people are camped out on the bridge, saying that they are seeking asylum and being told to “wait.” Most have slept here for the last two nights or longer.

Trump administration policies clog immigration courts to unprecedented levels - more than 714,000 - a third higher than under Obama.

. – they say they wont separate families that have proper documentation at point of entry. But one father I spoke w showed his docs and they told him that he didnt have enough proof. There are instances when asylum seekers present thmselves legally and theyre separated

In contrast, family separations are a feature, not a bug, of ’s border policies, said : "The are not the small-scale collateral consequences of a border policy, but rather a deliberate initiative.”
