Paul Callan is a CNN legal analyst, a former New York City homicide prosecutor and currently is of counsel at the New York law firm of Edelman & Edelman PC, focusing on wrongful conviction and civil rights cases.

Callan began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. While in that office he served as deputy chief of the Homicide Bureau. His duties included the supervision all murder investigations and trials in one of the county's largest and busiest law enforcement agencies. He was one of the prosecutors on the case of People v. David Berkowitz, the infamous "Son of Sam" serial murder case. During his career as a prosecutor he was involved in hundreds of investigations and trials including complex economic crimes as well as cases of domestic violence, sex crimes, kidnapping, robbery, theft, murder, and organized crime.

Through the years he has been involved in a number of high profile cases, most recently representing the former Trial Division Chief of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in the Central Park Jogger civil litigation. His prosecutor clients in that matter conducted the reinvestigation, which exonerated the so-called "Central Park 5."

Callan's successful defense in a criminal case of a physician falsely accused of abusing a patient was the subject of a Wall Street Journal editorial which was honored with the Pulitzer Prize in part to the author's reporting on Callan's case.

Callan successfully represented the Estate of Nicole Brown Simpson in the civil suit against O.J. Simpson. The civil jury, unlike the criminal jury, found Simpson liable for the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, awarding a verdict in excess of $35,000,000. Other well-known clients have included Leonardo DiCaprio, Ivana Trump, Quentin Tarantino, Vadim Perlman, and actress Michelle Rodriquez.

He has litigated a diverse array of fascinating cases including: a leading case in New York regarding its Rape Shield Law; a case involving of the artist Mark Rothko's most famous painting; a case involving the first attempted commercial sale of lunar material in the United States, the so-called "Moon Rocks Case." He even defended a murder case, which occurred at The Brooklyn Brewery during a live performance of the Bindlestiff Travelling Cirkus, the so-called "Circus Murder Case." He is a skilled criminal defense lawyer handling cases of complexity in both state and federal matters.

Callan's media career has included legal commentary on all of the major networks. He has appeared on NBC, CBS and ABC.

Callan obtained his Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School after obtaining a bachelor of arts degree, with honors, from Seton Hall University. While at Seton Hall, Mr. Callan represented the United States in international debate competition as one of two members of the United States Debate Team. In that capacity he toured the United Kingdom engaging in Parliamentary Debate at its' most prestigious universities. He debated the leader of the British opposition party at the Oxford Union's famous Thursday Evening Debate, a forum where twelve British Prime Ministers have honed their debating skills.
