The village of Al-Ur in Egypt has become known as “The Village of Martyrs”. On February 15, 2015, Christian men from this village who went to work in Libya were kidnapped and beheaded by ISIS. Their families and friends mourn their deaths but they also honour them as saints.Earlier this year, the small Egyptian village of Al-Ur suffered a hard blow when several of its men were murdered by ISIS for being Christians. Now their families resort to faith to recover from their loss and their community honours the dead as martyrs. Their Christian and Muslim neighbours alike mourn their loss and condemn the murderers. While those who stayed alive in that attack are torn between the survivor’s guilt and the admiration for the courage of their fallen friends. But however hard are the times this village is facing, everyone expresses great pride in the way the martyrs met their death.
