That's it for the day
Lancashire 149 & 314-5 v Hampshire 224
Lancashire will be thrilled with their efforts today.
Having ended Hampshire's first-innings resistance in the morning session, Alex Davies' blistering 97 and Haseeb Hameed's unbeaten 77 have given them a lead of 239 at stumps.
We'll bring you the scores from all of today's games in a moment's time.
WICKET Buttler (lbw b Edwards) 21
Lancashire 149 & 302-5 v Hampshire 224
Erm, perhaps Jos Buttler shouldn't have gone on the attack after all.
Hampshire have something to celebrate, Fidel Edwards removing Buttler leg-before to end his entertaining cameo.
Buttler on the attack
Lancashire 149 & 302-4 v Hampshire 224
Jos Buttler is trying to round off a brilliant day's cricket for his side with a flourish.
The England keeper has 21 from 21 balls, with a four and two sixes.
Just 3.5 overs remain before the teams, and the rest of us, are done for the evening.
Close of play at Worcester
Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 231-8
A tough day for Worcestershire is at an end.
The hosts still require 49 more runs to avoid the follow-on when they restart tomorrow.
Hameed and Buttler digging in
Lancashire 149 & 279-4 v Hampshire 224
Haseeb Hameed is in characteristically patient mood at Hampshire, while Jos Buttler has reined in his attacking instincts.
The Lancashire lead stands at 204 runs with seven overs left under the floodlights.
If you think I'm counting down the overs, you'd be right.
Leics in trouble at close
Division Two update
A few more games are starting to wrap up now.
Leicestershire have closed at 124-4 after Durham declared earlier on 525-8, Cameron Steel leading the way for the visitors with 224.
Another man making 200 today was Nottinghamshire's Alex Hales, whose side lead by 243 runs against Derbyshire, who close on 45-1 in their second innings.
Northamptonshire have collapsed in the second innings against Gloucestershire, reaching stumps at 50-5, a lead of 128.
WICKET Chanderpaul (c Adam b Dawson) 35
Lancashire 149 & 272-4 v Hampshire 224
Hampshire finally have a breakthrough as Shivnarine Chanderpaul is caught at slip by Jimmy Adams off Liam Dawson.
Hasseb Hameed is still there plugging away, unbeaten on 63, as Lancashire take their lead to 197 runs.
Back on at New Road
Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 215-8
Somehow, the light has improved again at New Road, where there are 8.2 overs left to play.
Incidentally, Adrian Harms has been doing some (more) research on record for number of catches in a day.
"Our earlier research was incorrect. The record for catches by a fielder is seven, jointly held by three players: Rikki Clarke, Tony Brown and Mickey Stewart.
"Five by Harry Finch is a decent day's work though, and equals the Sussex record last achieved in 1976."
Five games left
So, with Essex having wrapped up victory against Yorkshire inside two days, and poor light and rain seeing off two more games, only Lancashire and Hampshire are still going in Division One.
All four games are ongoing in Division Two, though Sussex and Worcestershire are facing their second delay for bad light.
Bad light stops play at Lord's
Warwickshire 126 & 293-8 v Middlesex 161
No more play will be possible this evening at Lord's.
It's been a good day for Warwickshire, who have given themselves a real chance of a first Championship win of the season, leading by 258 runs heading into the third day.
Bad light at Lord's
Warwickshire 126 & 293-8 v Middlesex 161
Fading light is starting to have an impact in a few games now.
Warwickshire and Middlesex are back in the dressing rooms at Lord's, where there are seven overs remaining in the day.
Long evening ahead
Lancashire 149 & 245-2 v Hampshire 224
In case you were wondering, there are still a minimum of 17 overs to be bowled at Lancashire.
They're taking their time at Worcester too, where 15 overs remain and the teams are back out after an improvement in the light meter readings.
Patient Haseeb reaches 50
Lancashire 149 & 241-3 v Hampshire 224
That's been the shot of the day from Haseeb Hameed, a good old-fashioned forward defensive stroke.
Still, you can't argue with the results, as he eventually brings up his first Championship 50 of the season from 154 balls, with six fours.
Hopefully the start of a happier run of form for the young England batsman.
Northants collapse in style
Northamptonshire 343 & 19-5 v Gloucestershire 265
Oh dear.
Northamptonshire took a big lead into their second innings, but it's not looking nearly big enough, such is the nature of their collapse here.
Liam Norwell has three wickets and David Payne has two, leaving the hosts five down and only 97 ahead. Calamitous batting.
Could there be a twist at Wantage Road?
Northamptonshire 343 & 17-3 v Gloucestershire 265
Bob Hunt
BBC Radio Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire were dismissed for 265, giving the home side a 78 first innings lead, but Ben Duckett (5) and Rob Newton (1) have gone early leaving Northants tottering on 11-2.
David Payne then castles Max Holden for five to leave the hosts reeling on 17-3.
Play abandoned at Somerset
Somerset 234-4 v Surrey
It turns out that no news is not always good news.
The umpires have had a look and decided no more play is possible at Somerset, where the hosts have had the better day after being put in to bat.
Tom Abell (88) will resume alongside Steven Davies (68) tomorrow, so long as the weather improves.
No news yet from Somerset
Somerset 234-4 v Surrey
A pitch inspection was scheduled for 17:20 at Somerset, but we're yet to hear the results of it.
There was a little drizzle around a few minutes ago, which might be enough to see an end to play.
Hameed edges towards 50
Lancashire 149 & 226-3 v Hampshire 224
Lancashire are now three down at Hampshire, having seen Dane Vilas deceived by spinner Mason Crane, the ball clattering into the stumps.
It's better news for Haseeb Hameed though, the opening batsman just three away from 50, and with the steadying presence of Shivnarine Chanderpaul for company.
BreakingESSEX BEAT YORKSHIRE BY EIGHT WICKETS
Yorkshire 113 & 150 v Essex 231 & 34-2
Dan Lawrence sends Jack Brooks to the boundary as Essex ease to the simplest of eight-wicket victories.
Mohammad Amir set up the win with his maiden first-class 10-wicket innings haul, as he took five wickets in each innings.
The Pakistani fast bowler bamboozled the hosts batsmen, with his express pace and by swinging the ball both ways, finishing with match figures of 10-72.
Newly promoted Essex have now won six of the 10 Championship matches and with just four matches left to play they have more a 40 point lead at the top of Division One currently.
WICKET Browne (c Sidebottom b Brooks) 13
Yorkshire 113 & 150 v Essex 231 & 28-2
Any wicket for the packed Scarborough crowd to cheer as Nick Browne also goes for an unlucky 13 as the Essex opener drives Jack Brooks to Ryan Sidebottom at mid-off.
The visitors still only need five runs for victory.
WICKET Chopra (run out Brook) 13
Yorkshire 113 & 150 v Essex 231 & 26-1
Varun Chopra's poor run of form in the Championship continues as he is run out by Harry Brook for an unlucky 13.
Seven runs required for victory for Essex.
WICKET Lamb (c Simpson b Helm) 71
Warwickshire 126 & 262-8 v Middlesex 161
Matt Lamb departs for a career-best 71, caught behind off the bowling of Tom Helm, with Warwickshire's lead over Middlesex up to 227.
They're eight wickets down now though, as Jeetan Patel has been bowled by Tim Murtagh for a duck.
Pitch inspection at Somerset
Somerset 234-4 v Surrey
The rain has stopped at last at Somerset.
One pitch inspection has already been and gone, but the umpires will take another look at 17:20.
WICKET Hales (c Viljoen b Madsen) 218
Derbyshire 220 v Nottinghamshire 443-7
The carnage is finally at an end.
Alex Hales is out attempting another big shot, caught at deep mid-wicket by Hardus Viljoen off Wayne Madsen.
An incredible innings from Hales, and one which has given his side a fantastic chance of picking up another win, despite an uncertain weather forecast ahead.
Lamb reaches best first-class score
Warwickshire 126 & 255-6 v Middlesex 161
Matthew Lamb is batting supremely for Warwickshire at Lord's as he reaches the 70s by sending Nathan Sowter to the boundary.
The visitors' lead has now stretched to 221 runs as Middlesex continue to search for wickets.
Mind you, there are still more than two days in the match left. Plenty of time to chase down any score they are set.
Finch close to making history
Sussex 430 v Worcestershire 171-7
Adrian Harms
Sports reporter, BBC Sussex
Another slip catch by Harry Finch as Joe Clarke is dismissed for 77, making it four in the innings.
Our research is showing that only 15 players in the history of the County Championship have taken four catches in an innings
Arthur Fagg in 1952 took five and holds the record... we think!
Somerset and Surrey face long delay
Somerset 234-4 v Surrey
The rain is still falling at Somerset, where the chances of any further play are looking increasingly slim.
The forecast for tomorrow isn't looking too bright either around the grounds.
Hales decision to bat at five justified
Derbsyhire 220 v Nottinghamshire 435-6
Dave Bracegirdle
BBC Radio Nottingham commentator
Alex Hales has his second career double-hundred, a blistering, chanceless knock. He brought up the milestone with his 36th four, from 201 deliveries, also having hit a maximum.
His scintillating knock has helped Nottinghamshire to a substantial lead and maximum batting points.
Essex chase 33 to beat Yorkshire
Yorkshire 113 & 150 v Essex 231 & 4-0
Nick Browne and Varun Chopra take four runs off the first over after tea as they chase a simple victory at Scarborough.
How many overs will they need to claim their six win in the Championship this season?
WICKET Livingstone (lbw b Abbott) 40
Lancashire 149 & 190-2 v Hampshire 224
Liam Livingstone had planted his foot on the accelerator, hitting three consecutive fours a couple of overs ago.
Hampshire get their revenge though, Kyle Abbott rapping the Lancashire batsman on the pads and turning round to see the umpire's finger raised.
Haseeb Hameed, another England hopeful, is creeping his way towards a first Championship half-century of the season on 38.
WICKET Woakes (c Murtagh b Higgins) 53
Warwickshire 126 & 241-6 v Middlesex 161
Ryan Higgins makes the breakthrough once more for Middlesex as Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes is caught at mid on having reached his half century.
His 102-run sixth-wicket stand with Matthew Lamb (63 not out) has helped the visitors build a 207 run lead at Lord's.
Hales reaches 200
Derbyshire 220 v Nottinghamshire 422-5
Decent knock this.
200 runs, 201 balls, with 36 fours and one six. There isn't another batsman in England who can change a game the way Alex Hales can when he's in the mood.
Lancashire make slow progress
Lancashire 149 & 155-1 v Hampshire 224
Lancashire's run rate has dropped off a cliff since Alex Davies' dismissal, but Liam Livingstone and Haseeb Hameed are slowly but surely building their side's lead at Hampshire.
Just 23 runs have been scored from the last 10 overs. It's not thrilling, but it'll do the job all the same.
Northamptonshire 343 v Gloucestershire 226-7
Bob Hunt
BBC Radio Gloucestershire
Interesting, albeit long, afternoon session as Gloucestershire began well with George Hankins and Iain Cockbain constructing a fifty partnership for the fourth wicket.
The introduction of Rob Keogh saw them both fall to the off spinner as the visitors began to find life difficult.
Richard Gleeson was on a hat-trick when he dismissed Jack Taylor and Craig Miles in successive deliveries but David Payne survived.
At the other end some lusty hitting by Kieron Norma-Barnett (39 not out) saw the hosts 117 runs behind at tea at the County Ground.
Rain delay at Somerset
Somerset 234-4 v Surrey
This is unfortunate for Somerset, though I doubt Surrey will mind too much.
The rain has set in after tea, quite heavily in fact. It's still far too early to say that will be it for the first day, but this could be a fairly chunky delay.
WICKET Leaning (c Amir b Porter) 70
Yorkshire 113 & 150 v Essex 231
It is six and out for Jack Leaning as he goes for one big shot too many and only succeeds in picking out Mohammad Amir at long on off Jamie Porter.
Essex will need 33 runs to win after tea. Game over, surely?
Leaning launches Porter for six
Yorkshire 113 & 150-9 v Essex 231
Jack Leaning is not going down without a fight as he smashes Jamie Porter for a huge six.
Yorkshire's 150 has been brought up and the lead is now up to 32 runs.
Hales closing in on double century
Derbsyhire 220 v Nottinghamshire 395-5
Dave Fletcher
BBC Radio Derby Sport
Alex Hales is within touching distance of a Championship double century for Nottinghamshire with Derbyshire’s bowlers toiling at the County Ground.
The England batsman reached three figures off just 114 balls and by tea he had made 179 off 187 balls with 31 fours and a six.
Hales and Chris Read (69 not out) added 164 for the sixth wicket with the visitors on 395 for 5 at tea – a lead of 175
Derbyshire claimed just one wicket in the session – Riki Wessels was caught by Gary Wilson off the bowling of Hardus Viljoen for 13, having added 80 for the fifth wicket with the impressive Hales.
